Stirling Albion hit with "sickener" after late Falkirk winner ruins improved display

Frustrated Stirling Albion boss Darren Young admitted his troops were hit with a “sickener” after leaders Falkirk snatched a dramatic late 2-1 win on Saturday.

Binos produced their best display of their four encounters with the Bairns this season and certainly deserved at least a point for their efforts.

But the unbeaten leaders proved their mettle again with Gary Oliver’s 88th minute goal.

Paul McLean’s eighth minute opener had the Stirling faithful dreaming of being the first side to snatch three points from Falkirk on league business.

Then former Bino Callumn Morrison had the visitors back on level terms on 19 minutes.

Both sides traded blows in an entertaining encounter, before sub Ross MacIver and Oliver combined to protect Falkirk’s unblemished record in front of a sizeable away following.

It means Falkirk have completed a clean sheet in their quartet of matches with their near neighbours this season, but the Stirling gaffer was left talking up the positives after another good display against full-time opposition.

Young told the Observer: “It was a sickener. To go and perform the way we did and come away with nothing is absolutely gutting.

“It was an even game and a draw is probably a fair result but we’ve had opportunities to win the game and on another day, you come away with three points. But they’ve showed why they will win the title, they kept going and get the break with the header and the player finishes it.

“We’ve caused them problems in the game – we’ve hit the post and they’ve hit the post, so it’s just frustrating to not get any points.

“We had a shape we wanted to play to frustrate them and force them into playing it longer, then it’s about dealing with the second balls, making it more of a scrap.
