Stirling Albion all set for opening friendly against neighbours Alloa Athletic

Stirling Albion will play their first pre-season friendly match on Tuesday, June 28 when they take on local rivals Alloa Athletic at the Indodrill Stadium.

The game has a 7.30pm kick-off and admission is £6 for adults and £4 for concessions.

It will be a good early test for Darren Young’s side, who are also involved in the North Lanarkshire Cup at Broadwood next weekend. They face Airdrieonians on Saturday, and will play Albion Rovers or tournament hosts Cumbernauld Colts the following day.

First up is Tuesday’s meeting with the Wasps, who are managed by Brian Rice and will again be playing in cinch League One.

The last competitive meeting of the teams was in 2019/20 when Alloa won 2-1 at the Indodrill Stadium in a League Cup group stage tie with goals from Kevin O’Hara and Liam Buchanan after David Wilson had given the visitors the lead.

The clubs have not met on league duty since way back in 2009/10 in what was Allan Moore’s last season in charge at Stirling.

The Binos lost four times to the Wasps during that campaign but pipped their local rivals to the Second Division title with a thrilling late charge.

Stirling boss Young is still working hard to add to his squad ahead of the competitive action getting underway at Dumbarton in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday, July 9. That is also the venue for Stirling’s cinch League Two opener at the end of next month, with the first home league game of 2022/23 against Elgin City on Saturday, August 6.

There have been five new additions so far –former Stenhousemuir striker Robert Thomson, ex-Annan Athletic left-back Cammy Clark and East Fife trio Aaron Dunsmore, Ross Davidson and Danny Denholm.
