Hearts, Hibs and FC Edinburgh discover SPFL Trust Trophy round one and two opponents
Hearts B, Hibs B and FC Edinburgh have found out who they will play in the first round of this year's SPFL Trust Trophy.
It's a competition that has undergone much change in the last few years, with various clubs from across the UK involved at different stages. This year, Northern Irish champions Linfield alongside fellow Danske Bank Premiership side Cliftonville will compete as will The New Saints and Caernarfon Town from the JD Cymru Premier in Wales.
Cross-border clubs first joined the revamped set-up in 2016/17, but their involvement has been paused since season 2019/20 because of the pandemic. Four Lowland League clubs – Cowdenbeath, East Kilbride, The Spartans and East Stirlingshire – joined the first round draw, alongside Fraserburgh, Buckie Thistle, Brechin City and Brora Rangers as the Highland League’s four representatives. Hearts and Hibs' youth squads came in as unseeded teams in the north section of this draw.
Edinburgh meanwhile were in the south section and enter at the second qualifying round as a seeded side.
It's Buckie Thistle at home for the young Jambos and Brora Rangers or Aberdeen B in the second if they get through while their Leith counterparts host Brechin City and then potentially clash against Stirling Albion.
Stranraer are the opponents for Alan Maybury's recently-promoted League One side next month.
First round action in this competition will be played in the midweek of August 9/10 with round two in the midweek of August 23/24. Raith Rovers won last year's competition with a win over Queen of the South.
