'Still positive', Matty Bondswell will benefit from Shrewsbury loan spell says Newcastle coach
Newcastle United coach Elliott Dickman has told Matty Bondswell to use his difficult Shrewsbury Town experience to his advantage - despite not getting a single minute of action with the League One side.
The former RB Leipzig defender is back on Tyneside after Newcastle cut his Shropshire loan deal short and recalled him to star for the Under-23s. Bondswell played his part in Monday's 4-3 win over West Bromwich Albion.
And despite the obvious disappointment for Bondswell after being overlooked by Steve Cotterill at Shrewsbury, he now has the chance to contribute to the second string's play-off push in Premier League 2.
Dickman said: "Loan experiences are positive regardless and Matty has been out training with men and in that environment which is obviously slightly different to how we're set up with the Under-23s so there are positives within that, the only thing that didn't happen was he was struggling with game time and couldn't get into the team.
