Stewartry Sharks finish season with John Birrell Tournament at Moffat

Sunday was the final day out of the season for Stewartry Sharks at the John Birrell tournament hosted by Moffat Rugby Club.

Moffat had invited teams from across the south of Scotland and the central belt, including Newton Stewart, Biggar, Strathaven, Lanark and Annan.

The Stewartry P5s prevailed in their section, much to the delight of stand in coaches David and John, with Stewartry P5 Liam awarded player of the P5 tournament. They kicked off the morning against a new opponent Lanark and came out strong.

They then had a four match break before taking on Biggar and their fresh legs and energy resulted in a win. The P7s had a tough task with some of their more experienced players unavailable and they had to borrow players they had never played with before from Biggar, but despite this they performed really well, as did their stand in coach John.

There were fantastic direct runs by Tyler and Jack which resulted in lots of ground made and good tries. Euan and Sam never stopped tackling and making great breaks. Strong defence from Logan and Alek stopped the opposition in their tracks on many occasions. They beat the hosts Moffat in their final match.

The P6s were short of players and had to play with no substitutions. They started the morning with two good wins against Strathaven and Lanark but lost by just one try against both Biggar and Newton Stewart. They won their last game
