Stewartry Gymnastics Club members compete in Celebration of Life

The zinc level girls competed in the Celebration of Life competition at Cumbernauld Gymnastics Club at the weekend.

On Saturday in the eight years category, Meadow McLachlan finished sixth overall. She had a mistake on floor but kept her cool and still performed all of her skills with maturity.

Head coach, Megan Bennington, said: “These friendly competitions are so valuable for our youngest members as it allows them to gain experience in a non-pressured environment. Meadow performed brilliantly and for her age, she shows such promise for the future. One of our young coaches, May Lynch, also attended as it was a great opportunity for her to learn the ins and outs of the competition floor.”

In the 11 years category Mia Kerr had a positive mindset to finish her competition third overall. She also won bronze on vault, bronze on floor and silver on beam.

In the 14+ category, Anna Dunlop participated in her first four piece competition, picking up fifth overall as well as bronze on bars and silver on floor.

On Sunday, copper gymnast Darby Mitchell competed in the 14+ age category where she finished fifth overall and showcased a new mount on beam and battled her way through her bar routine with great determination.

The club are currently raising funds for new bars and professional landing area. At the moment the gymnasts train on bars that are not competition regulation, meaning they are at a disadvantage when attending competitions.

Megan said: “Being able to train on the right equipment would not only keep the gymnasts safe when trying harder skills but it would also mean they could work more consistently towards their competition goals. They are always nervous on bars at competitions, as they know the
