Steven Naismith reveals Rangers 'fear' that drove him on as he urges Hearts stars to match Ibrox demands

Steven Naismith knows the demands of playing in front of an Ibrox crowd never ease for Rangers players.

The Hearts interim boss reckons the standards learned in Govan - driven by the fear of failure - are what made his playing career a success. So there’s no way Naismith will allow any thoughts to enter his players’ heads ahead of tomorrow's clash that Michael Beale's troops may have put the tools away.

The 36-year-old insists every man in Light Blue will be going hammer and tongs for their future. And that means giving nothing less than 100 per cent. Naismith said: "Maybe the club don't but the Rangers players definitely have something to play for - their futures.

“That's something that I've learned when I was there. That's probably how I got my success there because I had the fear of not being good enough, the fear of losing out.

“At a club like Rangers, there can never be an acceptance of nothing to play for. I expect them to be up for it, expect them to be aggressive and try and get the crowd behind them during the game. But we'll do what we can to stop that happening and cause them problems.”

Hearts haven’t won at Ibrox since August 2014 and have won only one in the last 19 against Rangers. And Naismith said: “Whatever way you look at all these results and how they go, there’s a demand at Hearts. I felt it from the moment I came here. I didn’t realise it until I came to the club.
