Steven Naismith makes Hearts his priority and will quit Scotland if he lands permanent Jambos role

Stevie Naismith is set to pull out of Steve Clarke’s Scotland backroom staff if he lands the Hearts job.

The current Jambos interim boss is favourite to land the Tynecastle gaffer’s gig on a permanent basis. Hearts are going through the interview process with Swedish side Hammarby’s boss Marti Cifuentes after he was one of the candidates to hold positive discussions with the Gorgie outfit, as exclusively revealed by Record Sport . There is a bit of a split in the Tynecastle board although Naismith is still seen as the front-runner.

He was put in interim charge after Robbie Neilson was sacked close to the end of the season after a poor run saw them overtaken by Aberdeen for third spot. Hearts are expected to make a decision later this week on their next gaffer. Record Sport understands that If he gets the nod, Naismith will turn his back on Scotland to focus on a summer rebuild at Hearts.

Naismith is pencilled in to join up with the Scotland squad in Spain ahead of the Euro qualifiers away to Norway and home to Georgia.
