Steven Gerrard sent Aston Villa contract message amid James Milner comparison
While the future of Philippe Coutinho is dominating the thoughts of many Aston Villa fans, there are a number of other issues for Steven Gerrard to resolve this summer.
One is the future of Ashley Young, whose one-year deal, which he signed after arriving from Inter Milan, is due to expire at the end of the campaign. Now 36, Young has been an important player for Villa this term, with his ability to play in several positions being a key asset.
And according to former England midfielder Carlton Palmer, the veteran would be worth of new deal, comparing Young to another golden oldie, Liverpool’s James Milner, also 36.
“Of course you want to keep somebody like Ashley around. He can play numerous positions on the football pitch, and we’ve seen that with Milner,” Palmer told GIVEMESPORT.
“It’s a great asset to have, and they actually become very important players at the football club.”
Gerrard addressed Young's contract situation recently, saying: "There have already been discussions. I've made it clear to Ash that I want him to stay around.
"The key to this will always be the player. He has to be happy, want to stay, negotiate and have his people connect to the club.
"There's still a lot to discuss moving forward and here's no rush but I'll make it clear that we're very happy with him."
