Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa transfer wishlist as boss handed huge boost before Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be without star midfielder Ruben Neves for their clash with Aston Villa after the international break.

The Portuguese midfielder will be unavailable for the game through injury after he saw a knee specialist in Portugal to determine the extent to the blow which he picked up in the 3-2 defeat to Leeds United last week. Bruno Lage is hopeful that the midfielder will be back from injury later this season, in May.

It comes as a huge setback for Wolves, despite having 10 days to prepare for Villa's visit to Molineux. Both Neves and striker Raul Jimenez will be missing for the Premier League game, with the Mexican suspended following his sending off in the loss against Leeds.

Steven Gerrard wants at least three new additions in the summer to transform Aston Villa from a mid-table outfit to one competing with the so-called top-six. The head coach will be backed handsomely by the club's owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens when the transfer window reopens on July 1.

Gerrard, 41, enjoyed a positive January window given the additions of Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne, Robin Olsen and Calum Chambers. And the manager wants to build on that to bring in more "winners" to help push the club forward.
