Steven Gerrard 'dares to dream' as former Rangers boss backs himself to pull off Saudi's biggest ever transfer

Ambitious Steven Gerrard insists he is refusing to blink in his pursuit of pulling off the boldest transfer in the history of Saudi Arabian football.

Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo already plies his trade in the middle east, however, in the eyes of many lovers of the beautiful game he sits second behind the mercurial Lionel Messi in the list of the greatest players of the modern era. And that's who Al-Ettifaq Gerrard has his eyes transfixed on the Inter Miami star.

Gerrard – who has been linked with his former Rangers standouts James Tavernier and Connor Goldson – is itching to land a marquee name to add to his squad ahead of the new Saudi Pro League season, The Liverpool icon is seeking more as he aims to improve on a sixth-placed finish in his first season at the helm. Speaking to MBC Masr 2, Gerrard said: ‘It’s a dream for me to have Messi at Al Ettifaq. He is an incredible player and would be a great asset for the club. I know it’s difficult for him to move to Saudi Arabia, but there’s nothing wrong with dreaming."

And Gerrard doubled down on his decision never to leave Anfield despite multiple offers from some of the biggest clubs on the planet. He added: "I had offers from Real Madrid and Chelsea, but my heart was always with Liverpool. I never regretted that decision. If I could go back in time, I would do the same."
