Steven Gerrard completes unexpected transfer as Aston Villa respond to ‘higher’ offer

Here’s the latest Aston Villa transfer news on Friday, January 28, 2022.

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of defender Calum Chambers with the defender becoming the fourth new first-team addition of the transfer window.

The player has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Villa Park, joining from fellow Premier League side Arsenal.

The fee for the transfer remains undisclosed, although there are reports that there was no fee involved.

Villa confirmed his arrival in a statement on Thursday night with the signing coming out of the blue.

Aston Villa have reportedly received a second ‘higher offer’ for Douglas Luiz from an unnamed Premier League club.

There has been much speculation over the future of the midfielder in recent days, with Villa said to have rejected an opening offer of £30 million earlier in the window.

Following the rejected £30m offer, The Telegraph now report that a club has come in with an improved offer of £32 million with £3 million in add ons.

It is said that Villa are ‘expected’ to also reject that offer as they look to keep hold of the player.

Arsenal are one of the clubs who have been credited with an interest in the Brazilian this window.
