Steven Gerrard addresses Al-Ettifaq transfer links to Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood

Al-Ettifaq head coach Steven Gerrard has dismissed rumours suggesting that the Saudi Arabian club are weighing up a move for Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

United confirmed on Monday afternoon, following a six-and-a-half month investigation, that the 21-year-old will resume his career elsewhere. The club said that "it would be most appropriate for him" to recommence his career at another club.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Greenwood back in February. The Bradford-born forward maintained his innocence and said in a statement released via United that he "did not do the things I was accused of".

Both United and Greenwood agreed it would be best for him to try and rebuild his career elsewhere. He is expected to leave the club either on loan or on a permanent basis as United have not terminated his contract.

Several clubs have expressed interest in signing the Reds academy graduate, almost all of whom are overseas. Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey have been heavily linked with his signature, one of whom is Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by former Liverpool and England midfielder Gerrard.
