Steven Davis must 'ruffle' Rangers feathers to get required reaction following Michael Beale's sacking

Kevin Thomson has urged Steven Davis to go in and ruffle some feathers at Rangers to get the reaction he needs.

Davis has been placed in temporary charge, along with assistant Alex Rae, after Michael Beale was sacked on Sunday night following a 3-1 home defeat to Aberdeen on Saturday. Davis' Ibrox contract expired in the summer, but the Nothern Ireland veteran remained with the club to recover from a serious knee injury so was a regular at the club's training centre.

He never officially retired and still harboured hopes of making his on-pitch comeback. But it's the dugout for Davis after being handed the Ibrox reins while the club hierarchy look for a permanent boss. And former teammate Thomson is sure Davis has the right mentality, but admits it cold be tough to go from teammate to boss and put some noises out of joint in order to turn things around.

"He's a top man Davo and is held in the highest esteem by the fans," said Thomson. "He's a hall of famer and has conducted himself with the ultimate class that the Rangers badge deserves.

'We were both lucky to work under Walter Smith, who was the best of the best. You learn lots of wee traits and get an insight into what the club means and how you should be when you represent it.

"Davo, when it comes to that, he'll take to it like a duck to water. He’s a calm character, he's a thinker. I'm sure he'll be disappointed to see Michael and the staff go because he'll have a heart like us all. He'll have spent plenty of time with them at the training centre but he'll now have to flip that.

"It can be quite difficult when you've been a teammate and so highly respected to go and ruffle a few feathers. I don't know what approach he'll take but he certainly need to get a reaction and
