Steve McClaren has already made immediate impact among Man Utd stars in pre-season

Steve McClaren is making waves already in his second stint at Manchester United, backing up Erik ten Hag's decision to hire him as his assistant coach.

When the Dutchman was handpicked by the decision-makers to be the manager this summer, he was adamant that he would need the right backroom staff. When McClaren was revealed as a top choice, he was met with resistance from the United board.

His time as a manager in the Premier League had been less than impressive in his later stints including failed spells at Newcastle, Derby and QPR. But it is suffice to say that McClaren has made a big impact at United already despite being just months into the role.

However, this is a job he knows well - though the personnel might have changed - having been assistant manager of United from 1999 to 2001. But the 61-year-old is making a big impression with the players already, including Anthony Elanga.

When asked about the early impact Ten Hag has had, the United academy graduate said: "It's not just him, it’s Mitch (van der Gaag) and Steve (McClaren) as well. And they are all trying to help us as a team, not just as individuals, going into details.

"Like the way we play out from the back and how we play in the final third as well because it’s all information that we have to soak in and I think that so far we are doing really well with it.

"Since the start he’s just brought good energy and the team has bought into it. We’ve all been enjoying every single game, the sessions, It’s all about taking it step by step. We are all really looking forward to the season but we’ve got pre-season first."
