Steve Cooper sends message to Nottingham Forest players ahead of back-to-back home games

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper wants his side to embrace the atmosphere at the City Ground as they prepare for consecutive home games.

The former Swansea chief has transformed the club since his appointment and there is a real belief at Forest that they can finally win promotion back to the Premier League.

A 4-1 win at Blackpool over the weekend made it three wins in a row for the Reds, whilst they haven’t tasted defeat in the league since January.

As a result, they sit 7th, just one point away from the play-off places, but they have several games in hand on many rivals.

The first of those comes against Coventry at home on Wednesday, before they welcome Birmingham to the East Midlands this weekend. And, speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, Cooper explained how the players need to be ready for this crucial period.

“I don’t think we should ever take playing at the City Ground for granted, whether it’s the first game or the last game of the season, because of the event that it is. I really feel that.

“I’ve said that before to the players. That however long you may or not be here, it won’t last forever, so you do have to savour it.”

The verdict

The atmosphere tomorrow night is going to be fantastic, as it has been recently at the City Ground, because there is a genuine belief that this year could be the year.

Cooper obviously deserves immense credit for getting the team in this position, as it really didn’t seem possible when he took over.

So, as he says, it’s about enjoying this situation and if they can make it successive home wins over the next few days then they will go a long way to securing a top six place.
