Steve Clarke swerves Rodri revenge mission as Scotland boss not pulled into war of words after Spanish taunt
Steve Clarke has taken no interest in a Rodri mission revenge against Spain on Thursday - as he insists they WILL get more points in their qualification group that would in turn send them to another major tournament.
The Tartan Army are already looking towards Germany next year but Euro 2024 qualification is not formally booked. Avoiding defeat in Seville will make it a formality for Clarke's side but Norway would need to run the gauntlet for the rest of the group while Scotland lose every game. After losing 2-0 to the national team in March, Rodri was left fizzing and hit out in a bizarre blast.
He deemed the style of play "rubbish" and hit out at alleged time wasting by those in dark blue. Clarke was asked about the Man City midfielder in his pre-game press conference and avoided all talk of the star. He simply said: "I can't even remember what he said to be honest. It is not something I get involved in. That game was in March, this game is in October. It's a totally different game."
It's a huge night for the nation but Clarke isn't getting carried away as fans look to a major tournament. He said: "We got them at a good time in March and we have to be very good to get a positive result
"I think we have been constant in improving over my tenure as head coach. We are striving to improve and trying to add little bits to our game that make us more competitive against the top teams.
"We want to get the job done as quickly as possible If it means we are good enough to get the job done tomorrow, great, if not we have two more chances in November and we have those chances because we started the group so well. Do I think this group will finish on 15 points? No, I think we'll get more, whether that's tomorrow or in November
