Steve Bruce delivers concerning injury update on West Brom man after draw with Bristol City

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Daryl Dike has suffered a setback in his road to recovery.

The forward was in line to make his return to action during yesterday’s clash with Bristol City after returning to training following a period on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury.

However, Dike was not included in the club’s match-day squad for their trip to Ashton Gate after picking up a new injury.

In the absence of the forward, West Brom sealed a point on their travels thanks to a late equaliser from Adam Reach.

Nahki Wells opened the scoring for the Robins in the 28th minute as he slotted past Baggies goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Karlan Grant levelled proceedings following the break before Andreas Weimann restored his side’s advantage.

With the Robins seemingly set to secure victory in front of their supporters, Reach stepped up to the mark for West Brom by scoring in stoppage-time.

After his side’s latest display in the Championship, Bruce shared a concerning update on Dike.

Speaking to Birmingham Live about the forward, the West Brom boss said: “Big Dike was uncomfortable in training.

“The idea was can we get him through and be a bit part today and then play him in the under-23s game on Monday at The Hawthorns.

“[But] unfortunately, he was uncomfortable.

“It’s not quite the same injury.

“It’s a tendon further down I’m led to believe.

“It’s the same leg that he injured so we’re not going to gamble on that.

“We’re going to have to see how he is.

“It’s a real shame because he’s worked so hard to get back.”
