Stellenbosch move Chiefs clash to Cape Town Stadium after Danie Craven chaos

Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker has confirmed that their DStv Premiership fixture against Kaizer Chiefs will be played at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday.

Following the chaotic scenes that unfolded at Danie Craven Stadium during their MTN8 quarter-final clash in August, the Winelands outfit deemed that the match should be moved to a bigger venue.

For domestic cup games, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and headline sponsors handle all logistic matters, but for league games, those responsibilities fall onto the club.

"I think it's best to play Chiefs, after the last time, at Cape Town Stadium," Barker expressed, as quoted by iDiski Times.

"So, looking forward to two games in a week. Cape Town Stadium, we're quite familiar with it. We've played a number of times there.

"Six points on hand at home in the next week, hopefully we can maximise. There are players that live out that side. It is home from home.

"Obviously, ideally, you would want to be playing every game in Stellenbosch but we understand the reasoning and the thought behind not playing it there.

"It's always a nice occasion hosting Chiefs, always a big crowd, it just adds to the occasion."

Before hosting Chiefs on Sunday (15:30), Stellies will get to entertain a crowd at Danie Craven on Tuesday when they welcome Maritzburg United (19:30) for a midweek Premiership battle.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi take on Swallows on Wednesday (19:30) before boarding a plane to Cape Town.
