What Cape Town's 2023 Formula E inclusion would mean for the city's economy

It's confirmed: Cape Town will host the fifth round of the 2022/23 Formula E World Championship! News of the Mother City's inclusion in the ninth season of the all-electric racing series was announced on 19 October, with the new calendar featuring a record 17 rounds.

With Formula E receiving 'World Championship' status in 2020, the 2022/23 season will visit four continents and 12 major global cities. Cape Town will host the fifth round.

"We are excited to announce Cape Town as a new destination for our series in Season 9," said Formula E chief championship officer Alberto Longo.

"Our local partners are working incredibly hard to bring an ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race to the city, and we cannot wait to see the futuristic Gen3 race cars competing against the iconic natural backdrop of Table Mountain."

The race will take place on 25 February 2023.
