Stephen Robinson has led St Mirren into the top six for the third consecutive season. A lot of people might think: ‘Wow!’
But let’s put it into context. Celtic, Rangers and St Mirren are the only clubs to have made the top six for the last three campaigns on the bounce.
The big city clubs like Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have been up and then they have been down, in terms of the bottom six.
Robinson and his side, on the other hand, have shown a real level of consistency. They have a decent-sized budget to some of the clubs a similar size but they have nowhere near the spending power of the likes of Hearts, Aberdeen and even Hibs.
Getting into the top six for the first time was a major achievement. Robinson surpassed it last season by not only nailing it again but also sealing a European return.
How many St Mirren fans will forget the games with Valur or SK Brann? Those games were history in the making.
This time, it looks likely that the Buddies will have to make do with the top six because their European rivals have too much of a points gap on them this time around.
‘Robbo’ joked that his squad should get statues if they made the top six again this season. And the former Motherwell manager is certainly heading in that direction.

Even this season, he hasn’t been without his troubles with the sideshows from some of his signings that made headlines for the wrong reasons. St Mirren just moved them on and Robinson just got on with the job.
