St Mirren and Celtic set for minute's applause in memory of The Queen

St Mirren have announced plans to honour Queen Elizabeth before their clash with Celtic this weekend with a minute's applause.

Last weekend's fixtures were postponed as a mark of respect after Thursday's announcement that the Queen had died aged 96. A number of games down south scheduled for this weekend, including Chelsea vs Liverpool and Manchester United vs Leeds, have been subject to further postponements, but the SPFL announced that Scottish football will return to its normal running order after a weekend off.

Clubs up and down the country though have been invited to take part in various marks of respect, with a pre-match minute of silence, playing the national anthem and players wearing black armbands suggested as options. And St Mirren, who will face Celtic on Sunday, have announced a minute of remembrance.

Manager Stephen Robinson said: "I can only speak for us as a football club and myself. We'll be showing our utmost respect. We just hope everybody is respectful".

Meanwhile St Johnstone, who host Ross County, announced they will hold a minute's applause, while other clubs are yet to reveal their plans. Speaking ahead of Celtic's draw with Shakhtar Donetsk during the week, manager Ange Postecoglou said he would take part in whatever measures are put in place. He was quizzed on any plans during his press conference and said: “I will abide by whatever regulations there are. I’m not the keeper of people’s obligations.

“We live in a society where people can express their own values in any way they want. I will be doing it my way and my club will do it our way, and everyone else can do what they like.”
