Giorgos Giakoumakis hands Celtic an injury boost as Greece boss reveals striker's fitness latest

Giorgos Giakoumakis could return from injury in time for Greece's Nations League clash with Northern Ireland.

The Celtic striker went for an MRI scan on a leg injury over the weekend and it was feared he would miss Tuesday night's meeting with Ian Baraclough's side in Athens. He was suspended for his country's first outing of the international break - a 1-0 defeat to Cyprus - but boss Gus Poyet picked him with a view to facing Northern Ireland.

And despite concerns over the injury he picked up, Poyet has now revealed the 27-year-old striker is pushing to be involved tomorrow night. He rated Giakoumakis' chances as "50/50", indicating there were no serious issues detected in his scan and suggesting he'll be ready to play for Celtic when domestic action resumes at the weekend - a relief for fans and manager Ange Postecoglou.

Poyet said in his pre-match press conference: "50-50 for Giorgos Giakoumakis and Tasos Bakasetas to play tomorrow v Northern Ireland."
