Spurs transfer news: 'Fantastic' £34.2m ace may not have played his last game for Tottenham

Ex-Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer doesn’t think that Tanguy Ndombele has necessarily played his last game for Tottenham.

Ndombele made the switch to the Premier League from Lyon for £53.8m but returned to the French outfit on loan in January.

Having made just six Premier League starts all season, the 25-year-old’s days in North London always appeared to be numbered heading into the recent transfer window.

However, his situation worsened when he was booed off in his most recent Spurs appearance in the FA Cup against Morecambe, which meant he was always likely to be moved on last month.

A move to PSG and a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino looked on the cards as deadline day approached, but while he did end up returning to his native France, he re-joined Lyon on loan for the rest of the season, just two-and-a-half years after he left for Tottenham.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ndombele’s move to Lyon has included an option to buy, meaning he could end up signing permanently at the end of the season.

Tottenham appear to have already moved on from the midfielder by bringing in Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus on deadline day.

But Palmer hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Ndombele returning to Tottenham and then playing under Antonio Conte next season.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Ndombele has shown glimpses of why they paid the money for him, he is a fantastic football.

“They’ve got him back out on loan. Either one of two things happen, he rediscovers his form, then they can sell him and then recoup a lot of the money back, or he goes back to Spurs under Conte and starts performing the way we know he can do.”
