Spurs: Harry Kane problem could impact Spurs deal for £67m star

Tottenham target Lautaro Martinez is unlikely to want to be a back-up option for Harry Kane, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Spurs appear to be on the lookout for another striker to bolster their ranks this summer, and they have set their sights on Martinez.

The north London club were interested in signing the Inter Milan forward last summer, but they were unable to get a deal over the line as Martinez stayed in Italy.

They continue to be linked with him, though, and they may fancy their chances of completing the move when the transfer window re-opens.

As reported by Calciomercato, Inter want €80m (£67m) for the 24-year-old. If this transfer were to go through, Martinez would be reunited with Antonio Conte, having worked under the Italian coach for two years at Inter.

Tottenham already have one of the best strikers in Europe in the shape of Harry Kane. With this in mind, O’Rourke is concerned that Martinez may struggle to get into Spurs’ team, which is a situation that he probably won’t be happy with.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “Is Lautaro Martinez going to come and play second fiddle to Harry Kane? I would very much doubt that. He probably wants to be in that starting XI.”

In his first five months in charge of Tottenham, Conte has largely deployed a 3-4-3 formation. This has worked particularly well in recent weeks, with the front three of Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski linking up to good effect.

Meanwhile, Martinez has been used to playing in a 3-5-2 system at Inter over the last few seasons, striking up partnerships with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko along the way.
