Spring Statement 2025 LIVE as Rachel Reeves to announce further DWP benefit cuts
Rachel Reeves is set to announce big changes to government spending, with further cuts to benefits expected.
The Chancellor will set out the measures in her Spring Statement. It comes after £5bn of welfare cuts were announced last week.
However, the budget watchdog has warned that the changes to disability benefits will not save as much money as ministers hoped.
It comes as the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) publishes its latest forecasts for the economy and public finances.
Ms Reeves will deliver the Spring Statement, which is different to the budget, in response to what is expected to be a gloomy economic assessment by the OBR.
The government has insisted that no major financial announcements will be made during the statement, emphasising that it is not a budget.
But the Chancellor is expected to announced a further £500m of cuts to the welfare bill, according the The Times newspaper.
Ms Reeves is also expected to confirm an extra £2.2bn in defence spending from April as she tells MP that a “more insecure world” requires a greater focus on national security.
The Chancellor is expected to deliver the Spring Statement at 12.30pm, after Prime Minister's Questions.
