Southgate to stay on as England manager - reports

Gareth Southgate will stay on as England manager and spearhead their Euro 2024 qualification campaign, according to reports in the UK.

England's World Cup came to an end at the hands of Sunday's finalists, France, at the quarter-final stage when they went down 2-1 at Al Bayt Stadium.

Captain Harry Kane scored one penalty and missed another as Les Bleus progressed on the back of Olivier Giroud's 78th-minute winner.

"I think whenever I finish these tournaments, I've needed time to make correct decisions," Southgate had said following his side's exit.

"Emotionally you go through so many different feelings. The energy it takes through these tournaments is enormous.

"I want to make the right decision, whatever that is for the team, for England, for the FA. I've got to be sure whatever decision I make is the right one."
