Southern Counties East League round-up: Title setback for VCD at Tunbridge Wells, defeat for new Lordswood management team and Stansfield win relegation six-pointer
VCD’s title hopes suffered a setback when they were held to a third successive draw in the Southern Counties East Premier Division.
The Vickers were looking to move a point behind leaders Faversham, who didn’t play, but drew 0-0 at Tunbridge Wells.
Faversham also have a game in hand to go with their three-point cushion, and a superior goal difference.
Stansfeld beat Lydd 4-2 in a key game at the foot of the table to move six points clear of their relegation rivals in 17th place.
Albert Penny and Mayowa Olufeko gave Stansfeld a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes against their second-bottom visitors.
James Rogers replied early in the second half but Dario Sesay-De Luca’s double, including a penalty, took the game away from the Lydders before a last-minute spot-kick consolation from Tyler Sterling.
Bottom side Lordswood remain nine points from safety after losing their first game under the new management team of Jason Lillis, Scott Porter and Mark Lane.
There were two goals inside seven minutes at Fisher, with Jack Gibbons’ early opener for the hosts cancelled out by Tunde Abiola Aderonmu.
But Kesna Clarke restored the Fish’s lead before half-time and Billy Brown completed a 3-1 victory with a late third.
Snodland, in 18th, lost 3-1 at home to Corinthian.
Town, who are three points clear of the relegation zone, trailed to Richie Atkins’ goal and a James Billings penalty.
Ryan Hayes cut the deficit before the break but Thomas Mitcham added a late third for the Hoops.
Kennington moved a step closer to safety thanks to a 3-2 win at Glebe.
Harry Linch struck twice at the end of the first half as Ton, having trailed to a Kelvin Bakare goal, led 2-1 at the break.
Daniel Vaughan made it 2-2 but Adam Phillips won it for Dan Scorer’s side
