Southampton weighing up transfer move for 26-year-old Burnley player this summer

Following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship at the end of last season, there have been a number of changes at Turf Moor ahead of next season. 

Vincent Kompnay has joined as the club’s new manager although there have been plenty of outgoings too with long serving players Ben Mee and James Tarkowski exiting the club.

Furthermore, there are others linked with moves away including Josh Brownhill.

The midfielder has been with the Clarets since 2020 after joining from Bristol City in the January transfer window and has made regular appearances for the side since.

Last season, the 26-year-old scored twice for his side and assisted three times showing some quality in an overall poor season.

He has been linked with a move back to the top flight with a number of clubs named as potential moves including West Ham and Wolves.

However, 90MIN have reported that Southampton are the latest club to show an interest in the player for next season.

The Saints had a poor end to last season and are desperately looking for midfield reinforcements to support James Ward-Prowse in the side as they look to retain their Premier League status next season.

No official move has been made for the player as of yet but it certainly seems to be one that the Saints are keeping an eye on.

The Verdict:

This would make sense as a move given that Brownhill has experience in the top flight and Southampton are looking to add strength to their midfield next season.

Although the 26-year-old was part of a side that had a poor season last year, individually he showed his capabilities as a player and could perform in the top flight again.

For the player himself, you could understand if he wanted to leave Turf Moor and take a step back up as there’s no guarantee
