Southampton now 'really excited' about deadline day deal at St Mary's

Southampton are ‘really excited’ about the prospect of luring Manchester City starlet Sam Edozie to St Mary’s ahead of the fast-approaching deadline, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

While Jan Bednarek appears to be on his way out of the club after a deal has been agreed with Aston Villa, Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl could still secure reinforcements ahead of tonight’s 11pm cut-off point.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Southampton are set to sign Manchester City youngsters Edozie and Juan Larios after agreeing a fee with the reigning Premier League champions.

It is understood that the duo are undergoing medicals ahead of being officially unveiled as Saints’ latest arrivals, while Manchester City have a buyback clause for both players.

The arrival of Edozie will reportedly set Southampton back £10million and left-back Larios is on the cusp of joining for £6million.

Having come through the ranks at the Etihad Stadium, Edozie has gone on to make just one senior appearance for Manchester City, with that coming in the Community Shield defeat to Leicester City last year.

The attacker has won four England under-19 caps and got his name on the scoresheet during a 4-0 win over Armenia in March.

Jones understands that Southampton will struggle to sign Goncalo Ramos from Benfica ahead of the deadline despite holding talks over a £25million switch earlier this month.

The journalist is aware that Saints opened negotiations for Edozie at the same time as they pursued PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo and Hasenhuttl is looking forward to working with the 19-year-old Manchester City ace.
