Man City transfer news RECAP deadline day updates as Blues confirm Manuel Akanji signing

Transfer deadline day was a relatively busy one for Manchester City with the arrival of Manuel Akanji and some permanent transfer exits.

City usually get all their business done nice and early and that has largely been the case again this year with the signings of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Julian Alvarez, Stefan Ortega and Sergio Gomez all done with plenty of time to spare.

However, the Blues have made a late signing in the shape of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji to add some much-needed depth amid injuries to Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Ake and Luke Mbete. The Switzerland international has signed a five-year deal and will wear the No.25.

Though Bernardo Silva has remained at the Etihad despite his desire to leave, there were some other departures with Luke Mbete leaving on loan, Claudio Gomes leaving permanently, and Southampton sealing a double deal for Sam Edozie and Juan Larios.

Recap everything that happens on deadline day right here.

That's it, the transfer window is closed.

A nice farewell message from Juan Larios after two years at City.

And also from Sam Edozie, who wrote on Instagram:

"With a heavy heart my time has come to say farewell to Manchester City. For the last 3 years I have had the good fortune to be around and learn from the most amazing people. I am full of thanks and gratitude for the opportunities that have been afforded me by this special club. I will never forget this place or the people in it. Thank you for everything Man City."
