Southampton: Hasenhuttl suffers 'sad blow' over £22.5m star at St Mary's

Southampton defender Tino Livramento’s season-ending injury is a “disappointing” and “sad” end to his first campaign in senior football, according to ex-Saints midfielder Carlton Palmer.

The £22.5m-rated right-back suffered a serious knee problem at Brighton on Sunday and could miss the rest of 2022.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a fine first season in first-team football since his move from Chelsea last summer, featuring 32 times across all competitions.

However, in the first half of Southampton’s draw at Brighton last weekend, Livramento went down after trying to challenge with Seagulls midfielder Enock Mwepu and immediately signalled that he needed to come off after twisting his knee.

Livramento was eventually stretchered off and replaced by Romain Perraud, leaving the pitch requiring oxygen.

Ralph Hasenhuttl described the injury as serious after the game, and Southampton have since confirmed that the defender has suffered damage to his ACL and could be ruled out until 2023, with Livramento expected to undergo surgery on the issue.

Therefore, former Southampton midfielder Palmer reckons that it’s a sorry way to end what has been a positive first season at the club for the teenager.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s disappointing and a sad way to end the season for him, his first full season in senior football and he’s played really well. He’s acquitted himself really well and he’s a good young prospect.”
