Man Utd: Ralf Rangnick slammed for 'absolutely ridiculous' Old Trafford claim

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick claiming that the club may need to sign as many as 10 players this summer is “absolutely ridiculous”, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Red Devils have had a dismal campaign, and look set to finish outside the top four, leading to Rangnick stating there will be a major overhaul of the playing staff in the off-season.

Rangnick’s comments came in the aftermath of United’s humbling defeat against Liverpool last week.

The 13-time Premier League champions were thrashed 4-0, with Mohamed Salah netting a brace, while Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane also got on the scoresheet.

Following that result, Rangnick told reporters: “There will be a rebuild here. Six, seven, maybe TEN new players will come,” as quoted by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Jones has been left astonished by Rangnick’s claim, but feels the German coach may be looking to ease the pressure on incoming boss Erik ten Hag by pointing out that radical changes will be needed to make United competitive again.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “For Rangnick himself to say: ‘we might need 10 new signings.’ Absolutely ridiculous. But I also think what he’s doing is he’s protecting ten Hag before he’s even arrived, and making it clear to everybody that this squad is nowhere near good enough.”

It seems likely that United’s squad will look significantly different at the start of next season. The likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata are all out of contract in June, plus Nemanja Matic has already announced his intention to leave the club when the season concludes.
