Southampton face 'blow' over key figure linked with major PL club

Ralph Hasenhuttl leaving Southampton would be a big blow for the club, according to pundit Carlton Palmer.

The Austrian coach has been at St Mary’s since December 2018, but his long-term future is far from certain.

Southampton are currently having a strong season in the top-flight, which has seen them cement their place in mid-table.

They have also moved into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where they will face Manchester City on Sunday.

Given how well his side have performed for much of the season, it is not a major surprise that Hasenhuttl is being linked with other clubs, and he has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United at the end of the season.

Hasenhuttl has not ruled out the possibility of leaving Southampton, saying that he will listen to his gut feeling when considering his future.

Palmer thinks Hasenhuttl would be missed if he decided to depart Southampton as he has impressed during his time on the South Coast.

Talking about the possibility of Hasenhuttl leaving, Palmer told GIVEMESPORT: “Of course, it would be a blow. He’s done very, very well for the club. He’s done well since he’s been there.”

When Southampton sold Danny Ings and Jannik Verstegaard last summer, some fans may have feared for the direction that the club were heading in.

Instead, Hasenhuttl has steadied the ship, and has arguably had his best season in the dugout since he arrived in England over three years ago, despite watching his team lose their last three matches against Aston Villa, Newcastle and Watford. The problem is that it may be difficult for things to get any better moving forward.
