Southampton: 224-game star could leave St. Mary's

Nathan Redmond could leave Southampton this summer, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

The attacker is heading towards the end of his contract, which could leave the Saints with a big decision to make over his future.

With Redmond’s deal on the South Coast expiring this summer, this might be his final season as a Southampton player.

There have been no concrete links with an exit, although the upcoming window represents the final chance for the Saints to receive a significant fee for his services.

Redmond, who is valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, has endured a frustrating 2022, with an ankle injury restricting him to just one Premier League outing since January.

He might not have scored in the top-flight this term, but Redmond has generally been a nailed on starter under Ralph Hasenhuttl, playing across the front three, including the occasional appearance up front, starting alongside Armando Broja in each of his four starts through the middle.

Despite being one of the most experienced players in the Southampton squad, having played 224 times for the club, Barclay failed to rule him out leaving this summer.

When asked about his future, Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: “I wouldn’t be surprised if Nathan Redmond moved on in the summer because he’s only got a year left on his contract.

“Djenepo is in a similar situation, although Redmond has been much more in favour and is probably offering more to the team.

“I’m not saying he will definitely go, but it’s just his contractual situation that might leave them with a decision.”
