Video: New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra Suffers Serious Injury, Walks Off The Ground With Bleeding Head

New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra suffered serious injury while fielding during the side's ODI Tri-Nation Series match vs Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Saturday. Khushdil Shah played a slog-sweep on the third ball of the 38th over of the New Zealand innings which was bowled by spinner Michael Bracewell. Rachin, who was stationed at deep square leg, went for the catch but completely missed the sight of the ball. Before he could spot it, the ball hit Rachin right on his face and the player fell on the ground. Such serious was the blow that he even started bleeding before he was rushed off the ground, with presumably an ice pack placed on his forehead to stop the bleeding.

D Gukesh Starts Moderately In Freestyle Chess Grand Slam

World Champion D Gukesh began his campaign at the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam tour with three draws and a lone loss, signalling that he is gradually coming to terms with the new format. A brainchild of World's number one Magnus Carlsen and German entrepreneur Jan Henric Buettner, the freestyle chess event marks the beginning of what could be a permanent fixture for professional chess players despite a showdown with FIDE, the world's apex chess body. Freestyle basically is a new name given to what was known as the Fischer random chess -- the name attributed to the 11th world champion Bobby Fischer who advocated this format that has the chess pieces randomly set up at the start of the game instead of conventional chess that sees a fixed alignment of forces on both sides.

Leverkusen Lose Ground On Bayern Munich With Wolfsburg Stalemate

Bayer Leverkusen dropped eight points behind league leaders Bayern Munich after a scoreless draw at Wolfsburg on Saturday, setting up a potentially season-defining duel between the top two next weekend. Bayern's 3-0 win over Werder Bremen on Friday, their seventh straight league win, increased the pressure on Xabi Alonso's defending champions, who host the leaders next Saturday. Alonso named a weakened starting lineup with Florian Wirtz, Patrik Schick and Jeremie Frimpong all left on the bench after playing 120 minutes in Tuesday's extra-time German Cup win over Cologne.

Bizarre Scenes As Match Between USA, Namibia Cut Short Due To "Heavy Traffic"

A Cricket World Cup Legue 2 match between minnows USA and Namibia was cut short on Saturday due to "unforeseen logistical circumstances" in Oman. The match was reduced to 43-overs-a-side as both teams couldn't reach the Al-Amerat Cricket Ground on time. This delay was due to multiple road closures caused by Ironman race in Muscat. Taking to X, USA Cricket said the match was delayed due to 'unforeseen logistical conditions', but they did not clarify the real reason for the delay.

Irish Boxer John Cooney Dies Of Head Injuries Sustained In Loss

Irish boxer John Cooney has died aged 28 from injuries sustained in a bout on February 1, his promoter announced on Saturday. The Irishman had been in intensive care after suffering an intracranial haemorrhage as he lost to Welshman Nathan Howells in a super-featherweight bout in Belfast last Saturday. The fight was stopped in the ninth round and Cooney was taken to hospital. It was his first defence of the Celtic super-featherweight title. "It is with complete devastation that we have to announce that after a week of battling for his life John Cooney has sadly passed away," said a statement issued by promoter Mark Dunlop on behalf of the Cooney family.

Rishabh Pant Sent Clear Message: Champions Trophy Chances 'Delayed' Due To This Star

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has vouched for all-rounder Axar Patel's inclusion in the playing XI for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Axar was promoted up the order in the first ODI against England, and the southpaw lit up India's 249-run chase with a 47-ball 52, adding 108-runs for the fourth wicket with vice-captain Shubman Gill. While Axar's ability with the ball was never in doubt, Manjrekar feels that he has time and time again proved his credentials as a batter.

PCB Lambasted As Floodlights In Pakistan Blamed For Rachin Ravindra's Head Injury

New Zealand batter Ravindra was forced out from the field after being struck in the forehead by the ball attempting a catch in the 38th over of their match against Pakistan in the ODI tri-series. The poor quality of floodlights at the Gaddafi Stadium is being blamed for the scary injury that could impact Ravindra's participation in the event. "Ravindra sustained a laceration to the forehead which has been addressed and treated at the ground, but is otherwise well. He came through his first HIA well and will continue to be monitored under HIA processes," the New Zealand Cricket informed in a statement on Saturday.

Chelsea Crash Out Of FA Cup At Brighton, Manchester City Survive Orient Scare

Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma sent Chelsea crashing out of the FA Cup as the Japan star sealed a 2-1 win in the fourth round, while Kevin De Bruyne spared Manchester City's blushes in their 2-1 victory at third-tier Leyton Orient on Saturday. Chelsea haven't won a domestic trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 2018 and their wait will go on for another season after they blew the lead at the Amex Stadium. Enzo Maresca's side were gifted the lead in the fifth minute when Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen fumbled Cole Palmer's cross into his own net.
