Sources: Chase Burns, Reds reach 7-year, $105M extension - ESPN
All-Star right-hander Chase Burns and the Cincinnati Reds are in agreement on a seven-year, $105 million contract extension, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Thursday.
Burns, 23, is one of the best young pitchers in baseball, going 11-1 with a 2.54 ERA and 118 strikeouts in 18 starts this season.
The deal, which buys out two of Burns' free-agent years, has no club options and runs through 2033. It is the largest ever for a pitcher with less than four years of MLB service.
In just his second season, Burns has quickly risen to ace status and has been the only constant for the Reds (43-52), who are last in the National Central exiting the All-Star break.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft out of Wake Forest, Burns made his major league debut less than a year later, posting a 35.6% strikeout rate over 43 1/3 innings during his rookie season while posting a 4.57 ERA.
