'Sorry not in service' - Shock pictures show bus smash at Stockport's Garrick Theatre

Emergency services descended on Stockport after a bus crashed into the town's Garrick Theatre. Two fire engines were sent out to Exchange Street, off the A6 Wellington Road South, shortly before 10.50pm last night (March 21).

An image from the scene shows a High Peak Skyline service had smashed into the building. The bus runs through Stockport on its way between Buxton, in Derbyshire, and Manchester Airport.

The glass panel display at the front of the bus appears smashed following the collision with the theatre. Behind the smashed glass, the display reads: "Sorry, not in service."

The site was cleared after around half an hour. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At just before 10.50pm yesterday (Thursday, March 21) two fire engines from Stockport and Whitehill fire stations were called to reports of a collision involving a bus and a building on Exchange Street, Stockport.

"Crews helped to make the scene safe and were in attendance for around 30 minutes.” The High Peak bus company has been approached for comment.
