Sorba Thomas talks up individual behind personal Huddersfield Town rise

Huddersfield Town winger Sorba Thomas has been praising the role Carlos Corberan has played in his development following his switch from non-league.

Thomas was an exciting addition at Huddersfield back in January 2021, but something of an unknown quantity given he was stepping up two divisions from Boreham Wood.

Corberan has developed Thomas into one of the Championship’s most creative wide players this season, whilst also helping the 23-year-old break into the Wales squad.

Key to that development were the moments last season when Thomas was still finding his feet in West Yorkshire.

“I’m a person that likes to observe, so travelling last season when I wasn’t playing or wasn’t in the squad, I was learning from those experiences,” Thomas explained ahead of tomorrow’s meeting with Cardiff City.

“That massively boosted me and massively motivated me. I’d seen it and I wanted to be there.”

This season, Thomas has got there.

He’s been ever-present for Huddersfield in the Championship, featuring in all 33 fixtures this season, returning three goals and eight assists.

Thomas feels like Corberan has been the driving factor behind that development.

“He’s done well (with me), better than I thought he would do,” he continued.

“You have to respect him massively. He’s your manager before anything, and I feel like I respect that in him a lot.

“He’s helped me through that with little compacts with him and going over my game. If you get a little bit of praise from him, it’s like a full moon.

“I don’t want to be told I’m the best player in the world, I need to be told what I need to do better. He’s good with that, he keeps me very humble and all the praise goes to him.”

Thomas’ form has driven Huddersfield to fifth in the Championship
