Sonya Deville says WWE has allowed her to live out two of her dreams
Sonya Deville has admitted that her first passion in life was acting and how working for WWE has allowed her to live out two of her dreams.
Deville returned to WWE TV in January 2021, following five months off, and was re-introduced as an authority figure alongside Adam Pearce. Appearing on both Raw and SmackDown, the 28-year-old has been allowed to flex her performing chops in a role that is heavy on promos and backstage segments.
Appearing on Claibs Online, Sonya spoke about her current role and confessed that acting was her first real passion in life.
“I started acting lessons when I was like 12. My first passion was acting. I got into MMA when I was 16 and those were two of my dreams. When I found WWE, it was like, ‘wait a second, both of these dreams and passions exist in one world called sports entertainment?’ I didn’t know that was an option until I found it and that’s why I fell so head over heels in love with WWE because it was my two passions that culminated into one industry.”
More recently we’ve seen Deville get more physical and combining both those passions in her feud with Naomi on SmackDown, and she admits she thrives in situations where there is a reliance on the performance aspect.
“I’m a very well-rounded sports entertainer. Where I can thrive is where I have that extra added experience in the performing aspect. I put in the extra work while with WWE. I have continued my acting lessons with my coach Sean Whalen. I do put the extra work in and that makes a big difference, a noticeable difference. I think I thrive in roles that are heavy on the performing side. I like that extra added dimension and added layer to my character. When you’re watching, I want you to believe it and feel it and I want you
