Son of Celtic hero "focusing on his football" after Dumbarton loan move

Gallagher Lennon became back page news in the national press when he signed for Dumbarton just days before the Sons played Rangers.

However the 18-year-old, son of former Celtic captain Neil Lennon, says he blocked out the noise, and is solely focused on helping the Sons to a successful season on the park.

Lennon junior was an unused substitute in the sell-out clash at The Rock, but made his debut a week later - replacing the departed Matty Shiels at left-back, and putting in a gritty showing his dad would’ve be proud of in a 1-0 victory against Elgin City.

And the St Mirren loanee admits it was a case of being dropped in at the deep end for his SPFL debut.

Speaking for the first time as a Sons player, Gallagher told the Lennox: “I don’t know if enjoyed is the right word. I enjoyed most of my debut up at Elgin, but towards the end it was getting tough.

“I’ve not played much football this year and you could see that my fitness level was something I need to improve on, but overall I was really happy to get the three points with a really strong team performance.”

Ignore the Glasgow accent and you could be forgiven for mistaking Gallagher for his dad; with a head of fiery ginger hair and a measured, precise way of speaking that belies his young age.

The Northern Ireland under-19 captain continued: “Because of who my dad is I knew there was always going to be a lot of coverage and interest. Is he going to be thrown in against Rangers? That was the question everyone was asking.

“For me though it was all about focusing on the football and blocking out the noise. I didn’t read anything on social media and I was solely focused on my football.
