'Sometimes I was angry' - Gerard Deulofeu makes Roberto Martinez and Everton fitness admission

Gerard Deulofeu has looked back fondly on his time at Everton and gave his verdict on the difficult situation his former side currently find themselves in this season.

The winger enjoyed two spells at Goodison Park, first moving to the club on loan from Barcelona in 2013 before returning on a permanent basis in 2015. The Spaniard made 75 appearances across that time in all competitions, scoring eight goals.

One of those came in an FA Cup tie away to Middlesbrough in which Deulofeu was crucial for the Blues securing a victory, scoring himself before setting up Romelu Lukaku for the other in a 2-0 win. Speaking to the club's official programme, the 28-year-old revealed he still has clips from that night on his phone, and he hopes they can get out of their relegation battle this season.

He remarked: "I have videos on my phone from that match, of the Evertonians singing my song and how they lived my goal. I said after my first season with Everton that the club was in my heart and the same was true after the second period.

"The ambition and the atmosphere were the same when I came back. You have good memories of a place if you were happy there and all my memories of Everton are amazing.

"It [this season] is a tough period, but I think Everton have a top manager and some quality players and will change the situation. And I hope I am correct, because I am an Evertonian."

Deulofeu was only 18 years old when he first made the move to Everton, and had to quickly adapt to his new surroundings in a new country. Despite that, he was a popular figure among supporters thanks to his unique talents on the pitch.
