'Something to watch' - Phil Hay hints Marsch could make huge Leeds decision

Phil Hay has been speaking about how Jesse Marsch may deal with Leeds United’s current crop of injured players.

Leeds have been having a torrid time of things on the pitch this season and sit just two points off the bottom three, having shipped 10 goals in their last two matches – while things off the pitch have not been much better.

The Whites have had to cope with long-term injuries to key trio Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford – although the latter two have been seen back on the grass with a ball at their feet this week, which could be a huge boost for new manager Marsch.

Hay is interested to know whether or not Marsch will take a risk on the injured trio even if they aren’t 100% fit and rid of their injuries, as he spoke about on The Phil Hay Show.

“Something to watch is how quickly the injured players come back now. I just wonder whether Marsch might be more inclined to gamble on a 90% Phillips or an 85% Bamford or a 95% Cooper, on the basis that that is the spine of the team and they really, really are needed at this point.”

TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ injured trio…

It’s no surprise that Leeds’ fortunes from last season have differed so much given the absences of Cooper, Phillips and Bamford, as that is the spine of this Leeds team as Hay mentions, while their squad does not boast the greatest depth in the league.

However, given that Bamford was perhaps rushed back earlier this season, only to play 22 minutes against Brentford in December, and has not been seen since, could be a big warning sign for Marsch when it comes to how soon these players are thrown back into action.
