Aston Villa: £60m England star 'would have to consider' major Villa Park transfer

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips “would have to consider” a move to Aston Villa and the chance to play under Steven Gerrard if the opportunity arises, claims journalist Dean Jones.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from Elland Road all season, with Villa one club thought to be chasing his signature.

According to The Times, Gerrard and Villa are currently leading the race to sign Phillips in the next transfer window.

The newspaper states that they are willing to pay £60m for his services and are ready to hand the England international massive wages.

Prior, it had been reported that both Liverpool and Manchester United were also keen, though a move to the latter would be complicated due to their rivalry with Leeds, who are Phillips’ boyhood club.

However, it looks like Villa are actually the ones at the front of the queue for the Leeds star as Gerrard attempts to bolster his midfield options.

While it appears that the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are interested, Jones believes Phillips would still have to consider Villa as an option due to the presence of Gerrard.

The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: “If there are players that play a similar position to where Steven Gerrard played, it’s undoubtedly going to help Villa. Kalvin Phillips would have to consider the chance to play under Gerrard if he was to leave Leeds at the end of the season.”

Gerrard clearly wants a new holding midfielder at the club. The Villa boss moved for Brighton’s Yves Bissouma back in January, something he confirmed, but had no success there.
