"Somebody they would love" - Transfer insider hints at Newcastle swoop for £37.8m-rated striker
Newcastle United would “love” to bring Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to St James’ Park this summer, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.
The 25-year-old is being linked with a move to the Tyneside club, who are trying to build a British core, according to Jones.
As per The Telegraph, Newcastle are planning to make a bid for Calvert-Lewin in the upcoming transfer window.
Currently, manager Eddie Howe has Callum Wilson, Chris Wood and Dwight Gayle to call upon, but it appears that he wants more firepower going into next season.
Calvert-Lewin has had a difficult 2021/22 campaign, missing a large part of it because of injury, but still looks like he could provide the above.
Last term, when fully fit, the Englishman was able to score 21 goals in all competitions, so it is no surprise that he is attracting interest.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer insider said: “I mean, it’s an ideal one for them to look at. Calvert-Lewin’s somebody they like.
“They want to have a British core to them if they possibly can; they want to have players that have got Premier League pedigree. And Calvert-Lewin, as a young player on the fringes of the England side, is somebody they would love to get in.”
