Smoke seen for miles around as huge fire burns in Tameside - latest updates
Residents in Tameside are being urged to keep windows and doors closed after a large fire broke out at a recycling centre on Saturday morning.
Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) responded to reports of a fire at the industrial premises on North End Road in Stalybridge early this morning.
Pictures from the scene showed firefighters at the scene tackling a significant fire, with a thick plume of black smoke rising into the air.
GMFRS tweeted: "Firefighters are currently dealing with a fire at a recycling centre on North End Road, Stalybridge.
"A large amount of smoke is coming from the fire and we are advising people in the area to be cautious and keep windows and doors closed."

A spokesman for GMFRS has said four engines are responding to the incident.
The blaze appears to involve 'mixed recycling' including electronics, he said.
The incident remains on-going and residents are being urged to close windows and doors.
