Sky Sports pundit David Prutton identifies key reason behind QPR’s recent demise

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has admitted that he believes that Queens Park Rangers’ recent demise is largely due to a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

The R’s are now facing an uphill battle to secure a place in the play-offs next month following a woeful run of form in the Championship.

After suffering six defeats in their previous seven league fixtures, QPR would have been desperate to get back to winning ways in their showdown with Preston North End last weekend.

However, the R’s were unable to step up to the mark in this particular clash as the Lilywhites secured a 2-1 victory at Deepdale thanks to an own-goal from Jimmy Dunne and a deflected strike from Cameron Archer.

As a result of this latest setback, Mark Warburton’s side are now six points adrift of the play-off places.

With five games left to play between now and the end of the term, QPR may need to win all of these fixtures if they are to have any hope of sealing a top-six finish.

Ahead of the R’s meeting with Huddersfield on Friday, Prutton has identified a key reason behind the club’s dip in form.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Sky Sports EFL Podcast about QPR’s woes, Prutton said: “It’s just the time of form and the lack of cutting edge in front of goal which has come at the absolute worst time.”

Prutton later added: “There’s a lot of injuries that they have had to contend with, I think they were probably operating under a lack of similar expectation to the other teams that were up and around there even though they are a very good side.

“And it’s timing, when you see [Nottingham] Forest and their upward momentum and the trajectory that they’re on with their momentum, that’s taking them crashing almost into the top-two whereas the opposite
