Sittingbourne sign attacking midfielder James Dyer from Glebe

Sittingbourne’s new recruit ticks a lot of boxes for manager Nick Davis.

The Brickies have signed attacking midfielder James Dyer from Glebe.

He could make his debut at VCD this Saturday (3pm) as Davis returns to face his former club.

“He’s someone I was looking at when I was at VCD and he was at Phoenix,” said Davis.

“He’s young, he’s ambitious and he wants to kick on.

“He ticks a lot of boxes, hence why I’ve brought him in.

“He’ll be a good lad to have around. I really like his attitude.

“We can give him an opportunity to cut his teeth at this level at 21/22. He’s here for the right reasons.

“He can play in any of three attacking midfield positions.

“He’s got an eye for goal, he’s technically good, he’s got a bit of pace and he’s good running with the ball.

“He could be involved this weekend.”

Davis spent two years at VCD before returning to Sittingbourne for a third spell in charge last summer.

The Vickers, 1-0 winners at Ashford last Saturday, are two points outside the play-offs in seventh place.

Bourne, whose home game against East Grinstead, was postponed due to a frozen pitch, sit 16th following a run of eight games without a win.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Davis.

“In a way the little break might have done us a favour but I just want the next game to come round.

“I enjoyed my time there. We were second after 10 games when Covid hit in my first season and last season we were in the chasing pack with Sittingbourne, Chichester and Burgess Hill to get in the play-offs.

“We were in the mix for a long time and then had a wobbly patch but we did well.

“We just need to get a win, I don’t care who it’s against.

“Anyone can beat anyone at this level, at any time.”

Sittingbourne should be a full-strength for the trip
