Sittingbourne manager Reece Prestedge on facing AFC Greenwich Borough in the FA Cup first qualifying round after mixed fortunes over Bank Holiday weekend

Reece Prestedge says there is no room for complacency when Sittingbourne meet lower-league opposition in the FA Cup.

The Brickies, third in Isthmian South East, host Southern Counties East Premier Division leaders AFC Greenwich Borough in the first qualifying round at Woodstock on Saturday (3pm).

They have identical records of three wins and a draw from four league matches, with Sittingbourne manager Prestedge reading nothing into Boro’s Step 5 status, particularly with the likes of ex-Football League striker Stefan Payne in their ranks.

The sides drew 1-1 in a pre-season friendly in July, so already know a fair bit about each other, while Greenwich have already upset one team at Sittingbourne’s level, having beaten Cray Valley 4-2 in the preliminary round.

“It will be a good game to see how far we’ve come,” said Prestedge, whose side bounced back from an extraordinary 6-4 FA Trophy exit at Aylesbury on Friday by beating Ashford 3-2 at home on Bank Holiday Monday.

“I’m expecting a very good game and a very tough contest because they’ve got a good management team behind them (Tony Russell and assistant boss Joe Vines) and they had a good result against Cray Valley, which will give them confidence.

“It might look from the outside like a banana skin but I think from how Greenwich are and the backing they’ve got and who they’ve got in charge, you’d be a fool not to take them seriously.

“You can’t look at the difference in level, you’ve just got to be as professional as you can and make sure you get the result.

“As soon as complacency creeps into your mindset, you’re going to come unstuck and that’s credit to the way Greenwich are at the moment.
