Sittingbourne manager Reece Prestedge discusses the arrival of defender Dexter Peter with pre-season just over a week away
Reece Prestedge believes new signing Dexter Peter is the perfect fit for Sittingbourne.
Peter has joined the Brickies after finishing last season at Swale neighbours Faversham.
Central defence was an area that required attention after the Brickies lost Jack Steventon and Ben Swift to Faversham and Dartford respectively.
Boss Prestedge had already brought in Skye Salmon and he’s now added Peter, who counts Bowers & Pitsea, Hythe and VCD among his former clubs.
“We needed a left-sided centre-half and Dexter suited the role perfectly,” said Prestedge.
“He’s an experienced leader.
“I’ve seen him at Bowers & Pitsea, he’s been around and knows the level, and I thought he was good for Faversham last season. For us, he fits in very well.
“He had a few options but we were always down to have a conversation.
“I had a couple of weeks off and I know some clubs wanted to get their business done early, but luckily enough he chose us.
“We’ve got Dexter and Skye Salmon, who’s a young lad I know well.
“Gavin Hoyte can cover that area, and Bagasan Graham is another one who can fill in at centre-back if we need him to, so we’re not doing too bad.
“We’ve got good variety in there, depending on which way we go and how pre-season goes.”
Left-back Graham is Sittingbourne’s longest-serving player, joining the club under Nick Davis in the summer of 2022.
The former Dagenham and Ebbsfleet man was named captain under Davis’ successor, Ryan Maxwell, and has retained the armband under Prestedge.
That’s how it will stay next season, too.
“Bags does a lot behind the scenes for the boys,” said Prestedge.
“There’s a lot of players who respect him and so they should. It was an easy decision to keep him as captain.”
Prestedge has 13 players on board so
